Survivable Atm Group Communications: Issues and Techniques
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents the survivability issues relevant to ATM group communications and outlines the tradeo s between restoration techniques that can be extended from circuit-switched communications. Current models proposed by the ATM Forum for group communications (VC Mesh and Multicast Server) are compared and restoration techniques for all possible single fault scenarios are examined. It is concluded that di erent restoration techniques are preferable for each proposed model depending on availability and connectivity to backup servers (adjacent or remote), guarantees of single fault tolerance, restoration time tolerance, level of group dynamics, and cost. Further research is needed to quantify the tradeo s between di erent restoration techniques. author for correspondence; additional contact information: telephone (309) 438-

Providing Network Survivability to ATM Group Communications Via Self - Healing Survivable Rings
In this paper we examine the potential bene ts of dedicated backup route(s) to provide survivability for ATM group communications. Specifically we examine the feasibility of providing survivability using working multipoint routes with disjoint dedicated backup multipoint routes where the multipoint routes are setup using either Virtual Rings, shared multicast trees, or VC Mesh groups. We introd...
متن کاملModeling, Algorithms and Analysis of Survivable VP Planning in ATM Networks∗
In this paper, we consider the working VP and backup VP routing problems jointly and employ the integer programming based approach to maximize the system resource utilization and the network survivability. The VP planning problem is formulated as a nonlinear combinatorial optimization problem. The objective function minimizes the resource usage while maximizing the network survivability. By pro...
متن کاملSurvivable wireless ATM network architecture
Amidst the rapid growth of wireless broadband networks, little attention has been paid to wireless network survivability issues. We propose a survivable wireless ATM network architecture that allows it to survive from a single base station failure condition, by redirecting a failure cell’s traffic via its six neighboring cells. We present two failure-handling schemes for the proposed architectu...

ulticasting is growing in importance as new applications are devised. Throughout this article, multicasting is understood as the efficient multipoint-to-multipoint transmission of information (in terms of network resource consumption) between the members of a group. In particular, the focus is on the problems of deploying the multicast service in an ATM environment. ATM has been widely deployed...
